Xunantunich Mayan Ruins ~ Belize

Most of the packages offered at Coco Plum Island Resort include inland excursions, one of which is a tour of the Xunantunich Mayan ruins on the Western border of Belize. The Xunantunich ruins consist of several structures with El Castillo being the largest structure. At 130 feet, El Castillo is the 2nd tallest structure in all of Belize.  From the top you experience incredible views in every direction.  

The hike to the top of El Castillo is not super easy, but it is really not bad.  It's very hot without that ocean breeze that you get so used to at Coco Plum, so you'll definitely want to bring water with you. We stopped and took little breaks to enjoy the view (and catch our breath) on our way up. Once at the top, the views are absolutely well worth the semi-strenuous hike up.
