Uig, Isle of Skye
We took the Calmac ferry from Tarbert, Isle of Harris, to Uig, Isle of Skye. It takes about an hour and 40 minutes and you can bring your car. For a standard vehicle & 2 passengers a one-way ride is around £48. We took the early ferry so we could maximize our time on the Isle of Skye. There was a pretty decent selection of breakfast items onboard too including a traditional Scottish breakfast, if you’re so inclined. We opted for some coffee & sausage & egg breakfast rolls. Then it was time to just relax & enjoy the sea views on our way to Skye.
The Isle of Skye has gained a lot of popularity in recent years, for good reason. It is truly one of the most beautiful & magical places on earth with so many incredible things to see on such a small island.
As the ferry was approaching, we were already in awe of the spectacular beauty awaiting us at Skye.
Uig is a small town on the west coast of the Isle of Skye. That’s where the ferry from Harris ports so it was our first taste of Skye and it was a great welcome. As soon as you get off the ferry, there’s a few shops and pubs right there.
My favorite kind of souvenirs are locally made ones. So our first stop was at the Uig Pottery shop. They have a huge selection of hand made & hand painted pottery pieces and a lot of them showcased the beauty of Skye itself. We picked up a bowl with a Skye landscape painted on it and a few Christmas ornaments - my absolute favorite souvenirs to collect on travels.
Of course we also had to stop at the Isle of Skye Brewing store. Unfortunately, they don’t have their beers on tap here but you can purchase bottles as singles or in multipacks. We picked up a few different beers to take with and enjoy that evening.
There’s also a few pubs and restaurants if you want to have lunch here before going on to see the rest of the isle. It was still early for us and we just had breakfast on the ferry so we just headed out for our adventures on Skye.
Adventure Always.
