Dinner at Sotto Sotto
As soon as I found Sotto Sotto online, I knew we had to have dinner there. I love restaurants with unique and special interiors. You can go to a restaurant anywhere in the world and have a good meal, but for me, it's the design and the ambience that makes a restaurant really special. Sotto Sotto is definitely special. It's located in a basement with natural brick walls and a rounded ceiling. The lighting on the walls gives the whole restaurant very warm and romantic glow. The perfect spot for our anniversary dinner.
When we first arrived, I was immediately blown away by the bar. It is set on the back wall with back lighting behind all of the bottles. It was just beautiful. We checked in with the host and still had some time before our reservation so we got some drinks and sat at one of the tables near the bar while we waited for our dinner table.
The restaurant is on the smaller side with a limited number of tables. Even though it's a smaller restaurant, it did not feel crowded at all. The tables are spaced apart enough where you don't have to feel like you're having dinner with the people next to you. The nice thing about having a limited number of tables, is that it feels very private and intimate. Since tables are limited, reservations are highly recommended! So book yours early!
For our first course we ordered the the Calamari and Shrimp Bruschetta. Both were wonderful - in fact, it was the best calamari I've ever had! For our mains, I ordered the grilled swordfish and Dan ordered the rack of lamb. We loved both and ate every bite! Instead of dessert, we chose to have some after dinner cocktails. I took a look at their drink menu and saw an Espresso Martini - I've never had an Espresso Martini, but it sounded good so why not, right?
Well, let me tell you, this martini took my breath away.
It was the highlight of my meal and probably the best drink I've ever had. I've tried espresso martinis at a few places since then, and nothing even comes close to the perfection that is the Espresso Martini at Sotto Sotto. I would go back to England just for that!
On top of the delicious food, impeccable drinks, and a stunning ambience, Sotto Sotto also boasts top notch service. The servers were all friendly, attentive, and very professional.
If you're planning a trip to England, be sure that Bath is on your agenda and definitely do yourself a favor and make a reservation at this incredible restaurant. I guarantee that you will love it! Enjoy!
