So Cong might not be on everyone's Must-Do list for Ireland. You probably have never even heard of it. How about Innisfree? Or The Quiet Man? Nothing. Ok, you must have heard of John Wayne? Well The Quiet Man is a movie starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. It is about an American boxer (John Wayne) who moved to a small town in Ireland called Innisfree and falls in love with an Irish girl named Mary Kate Danaher (Maureen O'Hara). I am named after the character, Mary Kate Danaher. The town of Innisfree is a made up town, but the real town where they filmed the movie in 1952 is called Cong.
If you're a fan of The Quiet Man, John Wayne, or just old movies in general, then I definitely recommend a stop at the quaint little town of Cong.
There are a few other things of interest nearby, including the Cong Abbey ruins and Ashford Castle.
