The Wildlife ~ Coco Plum Island Resort ~ Belize
One of the most magical things about Coco Plum is the wildlife.
The Pelicans
I could watch the pelicans hunt for fish all day every day. They sit on the decks and wait for fish, then they fly up and dive bomb into the water to catch the fish. It is absolutely hilarious to watch and super entertaining.
Spotted Eagle Rays
Almost every night we were there, we went on the pier at night and with a flashlight you can see that the water around the pier is totally FULL of spotted eagle rays just swimming in circles. I think they come there to feed on the little fish that hide under the pier. I have never seen such a massive group of rays before - definitely one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
The Nurse Shark
There is a nurse shark that you can see from time to time swimming around the island. They are filter feeders so if you're afraid of sharks, don't worry - it won't hurt you!
Loads of Starfish
One side of the island has super calm water, so it is absolutely full of bright starfish. We took the kayaks around the island one day and went through these calm waters - I don't even know how many starfish we saw because they were just everywhere.
Monkeys!
So there aren't monkeys on the island itself - but when we went on the inland excursion to see the Mayan Ruins we saw a group of adorable monkeys. It was so fun to watch them swinging around the trees and playing together - I probably could have stayed there all day to watch them!
